Das Kochbuch der Philippine Welser

Does anyone on my f-list have a copy of Das Kochbuch der Philippine Welser or a photocopy of it?
There are not electronic transcriptions that I've been able to find (yes, I've checked Gloning's list), and no print editions that don't cost $170.

There are only three copies listed in the US on Worldcat, so the chance of ILL is very slim, although I'll try.

Are you looking for something specific to the book or something cooking-related. I'm pretty solid on my German cooking knowledge and might be able to find another tack.

I'm looking for any lebkuchen or honey cookie recipes from the 1500's. I've got the three that are in Sabina's cookbook, but I thought that she might have other ones that weren't identical.

Let me shoot a message to Master Tirloch. I think that's the book he was translating.

Ah. I did dig some of this up when researching fruitcake. I'm not sure if you're going to find anything much different because the ingredients are pretty basic.

Weirdly enough, the recipe for Lebkuchen in the Joy of Cooking is rather close to medieval Lebkuchen. If you compare the ingredients side-by-side they're scarily similar.

Yeah - he hasn't answered yet but then, I should have considered that he's an Order Principal and we have a big meeting this Saturday that he has to prep for. But he's good - he'll get back to me. Duh. I should have given him Marion's email addy.

Its more the proportions that I'm looking for. I've got a reference to two different kinds of Lebkuchen in period, one that's thick and one that's thin, "like golden leaves". I'm just info gathering at this point and trying to collect the known recipes before I start playing around with the honey to flour ratio and see about thinning out the dough.

I don't have that book in my German library. I just checked the Va Tech libraries and there is no copy there. I will do a LoC query tonight when I get home.

I am still working my way through Rumpolt's <> es gute vnd wolgeschmeckt.

I've already looked in WorldCat and searched LoC, there are two US copies listed, one at the University of Southern California and one at the New York Public Library - Research.

There's one copy listed on LibraryThing, belonging to Mistress Huette, I'm going to try contacting her and see if she can tell me if there's a Lebkuchen recipe in there.

Wow! You are the fourth person I know of who is trying to translate Rumpolt. So many people doing one cookbook. There are so many other period German cookbooks just waiting for translation. That is why I am working on Das Kochbuch der Philippine Welser. I managed to perchase a copy of the transliteration from a German book vendor. It is so rare that Dr. Gloning doesn't have a copy of this book. Now all I have to do is find some time to do more translations.

Some people out in te Outlands are working on Rumpolt as well as Thoma Glonig. I have the book and I have lerned to read the High German script. I am always interested in new books. And challenges.

That would be Mistress GwenCat. There is also Lady Ranvaig from the Midrealm and Lord Giano from Drachenwald. Lord Giano has the advantage of actually being German and also knowing Thomas Gloning.
