Monday night
Bad phone connection again, got a cheerful “Hello!” from Matt and then I heard the chirpy beep of the ship losing the satellite connection. He wasn’t able to get a connection out again, it was very disapointing. Hopefully the connections will be better this weekend.
Shortly after that I checked on the cinnamon rolls in the oven since they were smelling sooo good. Yah, they were also smoking big time due to the springform pan not being drip tight. I put a cookie sheet underneath, but the damage was done, sugar and oil on the oven floor, which dripped down through the holes to be burned up by the gas flame heating the oven. Then the smoke alarm started going off, I HATE that. Yanked the battery out, exercised my right to utter a few nasty words in its direction and ran back to the kitchen. Got a dish towel soaking wet and with a long handled spoon, used it to wipe up the worst of it. The smoking went down and I only managed to burn myself the tiniest bit. What is it with me and burns anyway?

They did turn out good and I was going to eat one and then looked at the clock and saw that it was 11pm, bed time + an hour. Hmmm. Cinnamon rolls are not on the list of put me to sleep soon foods since they generally have the opposite effect, so I just went to bed.

After all that drama, the cinnamon rolls were a big hit at work Tuesday morning, Dale consumed several and proclaimed them to be REAL cinnamon rolls; Tracy, who is from China and had never had anything other than a CinnaBon commercial roll, was impressed by how not sweet they were, and everybody else got some too.

Tuesday night my Mom came over for dinner, it was really good to catch up with her and just hang out together. I fixed scallops for dinner, seared them in the pan with a little butter, then added a little lemon juice and white wine and let it simmer over low heat with the lid a little ajar. The scallops were tender and the wine, lemon juice and butter caramelized into this amazing sauce. The only regret was that there weren’t enough for seconds. We also had fresh corn on the cob, broccoli and potatoes.

Yesterday was the body block and pattern drafting class. All three class takers showed up with lots of enthusiasm and pretty close to being on time.
There were some serious rough edges that showed up during the class, the biggest one was that somehow between my computer at home and the printer at work I lost a column out of one page and most of the labels off of another.
The measurement taking went well, but the drafting brought up a few surprises. I have drafted patterns for myself and for my siblings , but not for such wide ranging body types and periods.
I definitely learned a LOT and things will be improved next class and I am so glad that I kept it to 3 people. I had just enough table space for everyone. We didn’t end up having enough time to finish everything last night, so they are coming back next Wednesday for a mockup fitting session.
I am hoping that they learned something useful and things turn out well with the patterns. I just have visions of things turning out horribly and them blaming me for wasting their time and them muttering dark thoughts in my direction. Can you tell that I am not feeling very confident about last night? I am not even going to go into the dreams I had last night about the fitting session next week, was sort of like a horror movie with the misshapen monsters of my own creation chasing me down the street.

Lessons learned:
1-Review, review, proof-read and scrutinize handout before coping and distributing it.

2-Add bibliography and put my name on the documents.

3-Write instructions for drafting a front closing bodice, a fitted garment down to the hips and sleeves.

4-Run through the instructions with a dry run so my students aren’t my guinea pigs/ beta testers who find all my pathetic mistakes.

5-Have a teaching plan so I don’t forget to talk about such important topics such as Ease, Seam placement, Closures and planning for them and so on…..

From Lithiate

1) What is your favorite kitchen appliance/utensil?
A good paring knife is my favorite, its so useful. The best kind has a blade that's about 5" long, with a good comfortable handle.

2) What costume, regardless of era, do you dream of making "one of these days"?
I have two. One is something like what Lizzy wore in BBC's P&P, with the cute litte Spencer jacket and the gloves to match, I am such a diehard Jane Austen fan.
The other is one of the trained gowns out of Alcega, with the long hanging sleeves. Totally out of persona, but I just love the looks of the pattern.

3) Who is your favorite cartoon character?
Lady J from GI Joe from when I was a kid in the 80's. She was a girl and she kicked butt, but she still had a boyfriend and could cry. Plus she had a crossbow as a weapon which I always thought was trea coolismo

4) Science fiction or fantasy?
Science fiction, I love Anne McCaffrey's Pern and Elizabeth Moon's Heris Serrano series. I positively worship Moon's style of writting, her character development is divine, she can flesh out a character in a page and a half and have you caring about them.

5) Name one person, famous or otherwise, that could get you to reconsider your current relationship if they ever professed their undying love for you.

I believe in marriage until death do us part, with exceptions for adultery and abuse, but Matt wouldn't do that, so its a mute point as long as he's alive. I am sticking by him. However, if I were to be widowed, the two past interests that I occasionaly see around and think, What if...? Are a guy who works at Microsoft and an airplane pilot for Alaska.

THE RULES!
1 - Leave a comment, saying you want to be interviewed.
2 - I will respond; I'll ask you five questions.
3 - You'll update your journal with my five questions, and your five answers.
4 - You'll include this explanation.
5 - You'll ask other people five questions when they want to be interviewed.
6 - Respond asking me five questions if you want!
