The weekend
Mar. 22nd, 2004 05:12 pmThe weekend just whipped by with all the stuff we did.
Friday was Matt's Captain's change of command ceremony. He did a wonderful job planning it and everything turned out beautifully. The brass band in the back of the room was splendid and it was so cool to walk into a room of guys in blue dress at attention. I think I'm going to miss CMDR. Carroll, I really like him as a person, yes I know that he can be tough on people, but he's a really nice guy. The new guy seems OK, haven't really gotten to know him well and probably won't before we leave the ship in two months.
After the change of command ceremony we took off for Portland to visit my friend Colleen and her husband Paul and to attend the wedding of Matt's old roomate Ben. The drive down was great, the weather was nice and traffic was a breeze. Had a lovely dinner with Colleen and Paul, played a few board games and had lots of laughs. I wish they didn't live so far away. ;(
Saturday morning we got up and had a leasiourly breakfast and a nice walk along the waterfront under the cherry trees before we had to say goodbye and head for the wedding.
The wedding was really nice, the only hitch was that the power was out for the entire ceremony so it was conducted by candlelight and sunshine.
We had a long talk on the way home about our relationship and where its headed and so forth. Very Depressing. But we've come up with a few ideas and made a plan to get it back to where we think it should be. I've also resolved to go on a diet and get in better shape than I'm in right now. Matt's going to help me, but I'm the one who needs to actually do the work.
Sunday Matt had duty so I had the day to myself. I went for a bike ride, did research for my next sewing project, worked on some brocaded tabby weave tape, looked through lots of pictures and just generally enjoyed the lazy day.
