End of Saturday
May. 3rd, 2003 10:38 pmI thought that I should actually post in my own journal after commenting in everybody elses...
Last night I went out shopping for corset stiffening, I wanted Liz's corset to be a little more stiff because its 1560 England not Germany and it needs to be a little more straight and I didn't think I could get that with pure jute or hemp or whatever the twine is. I hit the local hardware store 15 min before closing and bought a couple of packages of cable ties (they only came in packs of 8) and then went to the fabric store for embroidery floss. Of course that's not all I walked out with. I want to make her a shirt to wear over a sleevless smock, and I want it to be a really cool looking fabric not just ordinary linen, of course I don't have the time to embroider it myself. I had seen this really neat embroidered cotton gauze/organza/lawn that they had in the curtain section, of course they didn't have it last night, but they did have embroidered white linen, its just a simple leaf and stem pattern, I am sure it isn't period and it was expensive at $16 a yard.... But I bought it anyway because its for my sister and I am making her dress out of my stash so I can put out a little bit of cash for her costume.
Today I got half of the eyelets done on her corset, the embroidery floss definitly makes them go faster. The one that I made before has red binding and she really liked it, so I am doing the eyelets in red floss and the binding is going to be red too. I should get the rest of the eyelets done tomorrow. I think I am going to try a combo of weedwacker line and hemp for Liz's corset, maybe line across the front and then intersperse it with the hemp for the rest... I am making it on the Effigy pattern and I hope she likes it.
Today in jewelry class I was soldering my moon earrings and the stinking brass parts shrunk more than the copper! So now I have gaps between some of the joins, fortunatly they won't be under a lot of stress, but its definitly something to keep in mind for the next marriage of metals project that I want to do.
Tonight I went to my almost surprise birthday party at Stella's. The food was so good as usual and we had such a big crowd.
I think its time to head for bed, my cat keeps trying to go to sleep on random piles of fabric or clothing lying around the house and its usually a sign that he is up past his bed time.
