Last night I got the pattern for the new steuchlein drafted and fitted. I've decided to go for a two peice fitted veil instead of the one piece half circle veil that I have now. (The steuchlein is the veil over the unterhaube, which gives the shape for the white thing that I wear on my head in the above photo)

Anyway, it turned out well but it was too late to sew it together, so I went to bed and read about the history of the Europeon linen industry. Very fascenating reading! I'd post more but I have to go get ready for work. The ILL service at the local hole in the wall library is SO MUCH better than the Seattle Public Library ever was.

Tonight we've got a housewarming to go to and then a town celebration, but tomorrow is Sewing Day! WooHoo!

On another topic . . .

If you're interested in making a Victorian corset we could always get together with some other costumers and do a little sewing circle. I'm to the point where I need to light a fire under my ass to finish my red dragonfly corset. Especially now that our Vegas trip may not happen for a while.

Tomorrow will be Sewing Day for me too. I made lacing strips to help with my fitting process, but I think one of the cats drug it off somewhere because it's no where to be found. It stopped all of my progress last night, I was very frustrated.

I'm torn on making anything Victorian. On the one hand, it would be fun to have something to wear to Dickens or one of the other events. On the other hand, it means distraction from my main focus and starting over from the skin out in another period.

Cats are amusing creatures, but sometimes not condusive to effcient costuming efforts. ;)

You don't necessarily have to make it completely period. You can follow a period pattern, but make it something you can wear with modern clothing. If you ever decide to get into Victorian clothing you'd at least have one difficult part over with, the corset.

Besides, no one's first attempts at anything are completely period. Just have fun with your first try, see if you like the era.
