No diaries yet, but they will get up, hopefully by the weekend, homework permitting. *sigh* grad school is nice but sometimes I really miss the copious amounts of free time that I used to have! Here's what's happening on the costuming front.

A Schaube
I have decided to make a schaube with a fur collar and trim. A schaube is an outer garment, very similar to an overcoat and it typically was lined with a contrasting fabric or fur. For an outer fabric I've chosen a red worsted twill wool, which as washed up delightfully thick and fuzzy. The fur is beaver from a beaver fur jacket that I got off of eBay last winter. I drafted out the pattern on Sunday night, but have yet to make the mockup. Right now that looks like its going to happen on the weekend, darn homework assignments.

A Belt and a Purse
In several of the clothing inventories contained in TH (Textiler Hausrat) matching belt and purse sets are mentioned, usually out of velvet with silver fittings. I have ordered a couple of purse frames from Lacis and am looking for some good fittings for the belt and purse, hopefully matching or close to it.

On the Food Front
I've been experimenting with period pie crust recipes, made with gluten-free flour. Surprise, surprise! Who would have though that a pie crust recipe from 1553 would turn out to be the first one made with GF flours that I can actually roll out and treat like regular pie dough? It even tastes good too, although its a pretty sturdy dough.
