I finished the dress!

Go here for the gallery of shots I took last night after I went to my first ever SCA event. I had a total blast this Saturday afternoon and everyone was impressed by how good I looked for my first piece of garb.
I was invited to the Lionhearts tourney by Cainer, a lady who runs the sewing guild here in Madrone, and who I met off of the Authentic_SCA yahoo group list. After court I was taken up and introduced to the Baroness Anna-Marie who wanted to meet me and know about my cool hat, which is actually a linen headress. The Baroness is so nice and we ended up chatting for about 30 min at least about costuming and the local group, and about silversmithing.
I ended up offering to teach a workshop/class on how to make the hauben, don't know what I have gotton myself into but I should have a lot of fun and meet tons of new people.

I am so happy to have this project done and feel that the next projects will go faster now that I have my confidence built up and know that I can do this.

Next up is my sister's dress, my brother's doublet, and I am hoping, a linen dress for me, since the wool was warm, but not uncomfortable, at 87 ish. However, I have no idea what it will be like at 90-100 degrees and have no wish to find out.

Thanks! Yes it was my first piece of garb. I am some what... ok a recovering perfectionist.

I tend to research things for months, ending up with lots of material, sift through it, make the garment (which is the quick part, imho) and then worry about the little flaws in the finished product.

It looks great!!! I finally got a chance to lighten the pictures a bit so I could see the detalis, and I love the way the skirt is pleated in the back. That pattern made up really well. And the hauben looks awesome! You should make a how-to article to post online in addition to that class you are gonna teach. :-)

Thanks!!! :)
I am going to do a write up on the hauben, have had several requests already to have it put online, just don't know when yet, I have so much sewing to get done in the next two and half weeks... Gah!

Lucky you to have Photo shop or other such graphics tools. *drool* Its such a dark blue that it doesn't photograph well.

I'd be happy to send you the lightened versions if you'd like to use them anywhere. I'm always happy to share my Photoshop tweaking abilities any time you need it. It's fun for me, and I usually do it anyway to see more details of pictures I find online.

Could you please? That would be so nice.

I really need to dress up again and take a better picture of me when I am not tired, hot and sweaty. Before event pictures are much better than afterwards, thats for sure.

If you don't want to shell out the cash for Photoshop, I'd highly recommend The GIMP. It's free, it's versatile, it can use many Photoshop filters, and it actually does a better job at saving graphics for the Web than Photoshop.

It's available for Linux (http://www.gimp.org/), Windows (http://www2.arnes.si/~sopjsimo/gimp/) and Macintosh (http://www.macgimp.org/). For some reason, the Mac version costs money, but you can get the GIMP-derived CinePaint (http://cinepaint.sourceforge.net) for free (it's used in Hollywood for doing frame-by-frame retouching, but is perfectly usable on single images).

Fixing the brightness/contrast in many photographs is as easy as Image->Colors->Levels->Auto.
