I've got the tea steeping in boiling water to create the dye bath for the test dyeing.

Meanwhile, I'm thinking about starting a purse, just because I can and cause I feel like death warmed over and need a little costuming treat.

In happier news.... I highly recommend this book for good writting style, Lansknecht clothing, history of the era, some social commentary and some darn fine tents and camp furniture. Plus, I love his description of the camp tarts, and no I don't mean the pastries! ;)

Artists and Warfare in the Renaissance by J.R. Hale

And we must be getting into the Christmas season soon, the Nutcracker is playing on the radio.

The first burst of Nutcracker music of the season always makes me cry. From the time Kat was 3, until she was 14, dance class was a major part of her life, and therefore mine. She grew up in a ballet studio. I even danced in her Nut performances for three years, as the Nanny (more an acting part than a dancing part, but not an issue). I broke my foot auditioning the first year, kept on in the audition for another 45 minutes.

The first fall after she quit ballet, I had a really rough time of it. From August to December, everything was Nut-Nut-Nut, the hundreds of hours of rehearsals, costume fittings, creation of new costumes, the like. Here is my collection of rats, for example: http://www.villagephotos.com/pubbrowse.asp?folder_id=1049820 - I don't know what happened to the picture of Michael as a rat; I'll have to re-scan that photo.

I am determined to go see Nut this year, whether or not I can get Æddie or Kat to go with me. It's under my skin, a part of my soul now. I can't not go see it. So, for me, I cherish Nutcracker on the radio, tears and all.

I used to dance in the Nutcracker too, that's why I knew what the little pieces they were playing were. I was one of the girls under Mother Goose's skirts and then one of the boys at the party. I too am going to have to see what's available locally as far as Nutcracker's, the music is wonderful and seeing all the kids trying their best is great.
