I like this meme!
Gakked from a whole bunch of people:
This is the problem with LJ, we all think we are so close, and we know nothing about each other. I'm going to rectify it. I want you to ask me something you think you should know about me, something that should be obvious, but you have no idea about. Ask away.

I too am for welfare reform, & pro death penality, I hate the IRS as much as you do, but would like to see more money going to seniors & Education for adults. Me being pro-choice is to respect your decision to be pro-life. I am against most war, but am pro-soldier. This is why we are friends. You are amazing even though our beliefs are different-Hugs, My sweet friend, Ysabel

Its pretty amazing how we can disagree on so many things, yet still be friends, and I think that's because we focus on our common beliefs and downplay the differences.

The problem with Social Security is that its a primide scheme, the money you pay into it goes directly to the people who are recieving payments now, it doesn't go into a savings account for you. Not a lot of people realize this, which is unfortunate. I would love to see the President add personal accounts to Social security and reform the tax code so that it is fairer all around and everybody pays the same % rate, not the middle class paying so much and the rich paying less because they can hire lawyers to structure trusts and investments to protect the money.

As long as my grandparents are taken care of right now, is my most important concern. I believe the rich should pay more taxes (the trickle down theory is a myth, the rich keep their money they do not share). You & I are kind of like John McCain & John Kerry, Good Friends who don't compromise our beliefs & can work toward a comman goal-Hugs-Ysabel

I'm going to gack my Q from this answer, just 'cos I can, and because the juxtaposition of your answers made me want to ask. :)

Pro-life
For the death penalty

How do you justify that? Don't you see that as having fundamental conflicts? Surely some of the justifications for the former could be applied to the latter.

and answering the question from my point of view.

I see no conflict. Pro-Life is about not killing an unborn child with an abortion. To me, an unborn child is an innocent and fully deserves a chance to live and grow. The death penalty is punishing someone who has done something evil. It's taking the life of someone who has made the choice to end someone else's life. As a side note I think it would be a more effective deterrent if appeals were limited to two, one for procedural screwups and one a specified time later for new evidentiary findings. That way we wouldn't have people on death row for decades and people would know that if they did certain crimes and were caught, they were going to get executed in a timely manner.

I agree with what Aeddie said, life for the innocent, both the unborn and the aged, the infirm and the mentally handicapped.

The death penalty should be reserved for those who have done things to deserve it, not the unborn children in the womb or the mentally handicapped person who is inconveinent, or the old person in the retirement home who's family is tired of caring for them.

Drexel?

Isn't Drexel in Philadephia? Or at least PA? How are you pulling off going to school in PA while living in CA? Are you in some sort of correspondence course?

Its in Philadelphia. My program is a fully accredited online program, so I never have to actually go to Philadelphia to graduate. So far its worked out well, and its very flexible so I can do classwork at any time of the day I want.

I always see you posting about baking. How do your get around your allergy/intolerance (not exactly sure what to call it)?

Its an intolerance, unfortunatly not an allergy. I have a special flour mix made from about 11 ingredients that acts similar to wheat flour that I use in baking, but xanthum gum is the key ingredient that makes things gummy enough to stick together.

Sure, I'm 29, will be 30 in April. Somedays I feel very young, and other days I feel quite old, but never how I thought 29 would feel. I think I stopped aging at about 26, 26 was a fabuleus year!

Ahhhhh...yes, 29! What a wonderful age to be. :) I think of you as about 26...so I was nearly right. The funny thing about age...even my Mom says this (at 77)...that inside you will always feel young. The shocking thing about aging...the mirror! :)

how did you meet your hubby?

I met him at a church singles group. I came in late and snuck in the back row during the singing, then during met and greet time he introduced himself and complimented me on my nice singing voice.

Later at the after's at Red Robin, he bought me fries and a drink since I was all out of cash due to paying $18.96 worth of library fines and almost being taken to the collection agency!

The funny thing is, he was sooo not my typical type! And I wasn't his either. I also had just decided to forget about getting married and be a single career girl, move with my job to Conneticut and be the rich maiden aunt of the family. But that wasn't to be my destiny.

Matt and I are two very different people who somehow manage to make it work just because we like each other and think the other is pretty nifty. Funny how love works, uh?

Muahahaha, okay, again my question of choice. How did you come to be involved in the SCA?

(no subject)

From: [identity profile] mmcnealy.livejournal.com
Well, I was making the Enn's dress so I could attend a Ren Faire and to pass the time while Matt was out to sea on deployment, and happened to get invited to Lionhearts Tourney in 2002 by Cainder. But I had been interested in it for a while before, I remember my Dad talking about the SCA when I was a kid, so it wasn't a foreign concept to me. Pretty much its a place to wear the fun costumes that I like to make and be able to use the odd crafts that I like to do.

I mean, where else have you even met somebody who knows how to tablet weave?

How did you originally find German costuming?

(no subject)

Date: 2004-11-12 07:30 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] mmcnealy.livejournal.com
I was inspired by extant patterns from the Tailor's book of Enn's that Drea Leed posted on her site and decided that I wanted to make that dress. Once I had the concept, I dug into German costuming and got hooked on the hats. It also is a style that looks really good on me, so I've stuck with it.
