Adventures in costuming
Nov. 22nd, 2004 09:38 pmI got quite a bit done tonight
-Finished the handsewing on the chemise that's been sitting on my sewing table for 2 months. Now all that's left is the smocking on the cuffs.
-Ironed the now light brown lining material for the schaube.
-Ironed the beautiful dark red wool for the outside
-Cut out the dark red wool
After I had carefully cut it all out, I then sat down with the art books to determine the shape of the collar, since the collar I had created earlier didn't seem to lay right around the neck. In doing this I discovered that although Alcega has a scooped neckline on his Schaube type garments, the actual German ones don't! What this means is that there is no, and I mean NO, neckline shaping. Its just continues in the same angle as the shoulder angle and then lays flat against the shoulder.
Of course I figure this out AFTER I cut out the fronts, with the neckline shaping!
So I went back to the cutting table and picked out the scraps that were from cutting out the neck and very carefully used them to piece in the neckedge, just like I hadn't cut out the thing in the first place. The good news is that this seam will never show.
But yet another example of my scissors getting ahead of my brain. ARRGGG!
