Gardens, cats and new catnip plants
Jun. 15th, 2003 05:02 pmSo I go to the fabric store to look for trim, and wouldn't you know it, they don't open until 12 noon. So I head over to Fred Meyer's to pick up some bark mulch and a new sprinkler. I also check out the plant section to see if they are having a new sale, they are and I restrain myself to just buying the ones I know that I need. I bought two rosemary plants, 5 corsican mint plants, 3 cosmos and 2 big lush and healthy catnip plants.
My cat, Ginger-snap, was inside while I was weeding the front flower bed and starting the sprinkler to water the lawn. Thinking it was safe to plant the catnip when he wasn't looking, I dug up the front flower bed and popped them in. As soon as the last little bit of dirt went around the last plant, he was meowing to be let out the front door. So I let him out, even though there is a cat door on the back door. He headed straight for the new plants, and in the course of about 5 min had rolled one flat, eaten one whole stem and dug it up. I was astonished at his effiecency, definitly takes the gold medal for fastest catnip destruction. Fortunatly, I got sturdy healthy plants, I watered it in and so it should be OK.
I think my lower back is going to be killing me tomorrow.
