I've been recently browsing around in REALonline, http://www.imareal.oeaw.ac.at/realonline/ , the Austrian equivient to Bildindex.de, only much better indexed and searchable. It mainly has artworks, most in color, but it does have a few objects. I *love* this site!

I ran across this paternosters, or as they are cataloged on this site as Betschnur under the Materielle Objekte (Material Objects) catalog.
They appear to match the styles of the one's depicted in the period art work pretty closely and most of them are strung on string or cord.

This are just the physical objects, not all the really neat ones in paintings that are on this site.

Here are the complete catalog entries for them, along with links to the pictures.

That really would be paradise!

But just think how much better its gotten in the last 3 years, who knows how much better it will be in the next 3 years? I have high hopes for the future of museum online collections.

Finally got around to viewing your website and journal. Fabulous information. I can see that you have been enjoying your summer break and diving into the research. I like the standard you set for yourself and your SCA doings, just don't let it be a barrier rather than a goal.
I also need to disparately update my website and get my A&S projects/research posted. You can be my inspiration. I really like what you've done with your site - very classy!
See you at Purg or before at Pitchfork War - come. It will be fun and relaxed. - Sabrina

Have you talked with Lady Christian de Holacombe? She's done a lot of research into paternosters, and has a website at http://paternosters.home.igc.org/ that could be helpful.

I've posted this on the Paternosters Yahoo group that she runs, but she hasn't responded yet. I've also checked her website to see if she's already addressed these and she hasn't. I'm really curious to hear what she has to say about these.

Great site -- thanks for the tip! This inspires me to go spend more time looking for comparable picture sites in other countries as well.

I think I managed to miss your message about this in the Paternosters group; at any rate I couldn't find it. Yes, I have some information about the "bracelet of disks" style of rosary, and I'm delighted to find another one. Perhaps this should be the class I volunteer to teach at Fall Collegium? They're really easy to make. And yes, I have a page planned for them at Paternoster-row, I just haven't gotten to it yet....
