Research projects can just be a kicker sometimes! I have lots of scans of Housebook Master dresses that I want to put up, as well as my theory on construction and layers. However, to provide evidence for my theory, I'm having to dig back to pre-1400 and show the progression of German women's fashion from cotehardie through houppelande influenced styles to the stylized look that shows up in the Housebook Master drawings.

Why can't I just write something simple? Why does everything turn into a serious project that verges on a PhD thesis? Why can't I just let go and put unsupported arguements out there? Sometimes my OCD and perfectionist tendancies are quite annoying!

Back to reading about cotehardies and houpelandes....

I really don't think you have to go that far back, there is so much change during the 15th century that you shouldn't have to deal with the 14th century. I also assume you don't have to do all the research from scratch for the periods before 1500, but can use other people's research on the subject?
Oh, and over here a PhD dissertation is supposed to be 200-250 pages and be the results of four years full time work. I hope you're not going to take your research that far?

Yes, there's a lot of change in the 15th century, but the styles in the Housebook Master are such a mixture of earlier styles from other places, that in order to prove my theory about what layers are involved, I feel like I need to go back that far. Yes, I am using other people's research which they have kindly published or put up on the web.

OK, the PhD dissertation was an exageration, but sometimes it feels like I'm writing one.

You have academic integrity. And a curious nature. And Costumers OCD.

Besides you know that many of the unsupported arguments are assumptions and not quite accurate and do you really want to be lumped in with them? I didn't think so. :-)

Your dedication to research and accuracy is inspiring.

Or because you have a theory and you understand how to go about supporting it? You need all of the information available, and you're not going to get that unless you go to the source.

And because if you were willing to put unsupported arguments out there, you wouldn't be able to sleep at night.

You're right about the not sleeping part. At least I've learned a whole lot today. :)

But I think it's cool that you're doing it. :-)

cuz that would be boring and ordinary and the view from the moral high ground is much nicer :)

LOL, yes, the view from the high ground is nicer. :)

simple means you don't see the whole picture

Sometimes it is very hard to be true to your self. I look back on stuff I did a couple years ago and cringe. As you grow, and if you have a curious nature, you see the nuances. It is those nuances that make the whole project worthwhile. I enjoy viewing your work and learn from it. You have so much to share, so know that it is appreciated and noticed. - Sabrina
