I've decided its time to do a little cleaning out of various closets and bins, and I'd like to sell things on eBay. Unfortunatly I usually have horrible luck selling stuff on there, buying is a whole nother story.

Anybody got any good tips on selling stuff on eBay?

Do what [livejournal.com profile] galiana_db is doing and tell all your peeps about it as the listings come online?

I've always done well when I've sold stuff, and all I've done is put on my buyer hat and asked, "what will make me pay attention to something long enough to bid?" What's worked for me:

Photos are essential.

Proper categorization is essential - best bargains I've got were on stuff that wasn't listed correctly so the masses of folks couldn't find it. Great as a buyer, not so great as a seller.

Good descriptions are essential. You shouldn't have a problem - you're more articulate than the average bear... :)

Take the time to encode your description so it isn't just text slapped on a screen, but don't bother with the slick backgrounds, etc.

Hope this helps - good luck!

Great! Thanks for all the pointers.
What do you mean by encode the description? Do you mean HTML or something else?

Yeah, I meant HTML. Nothing fancy, just selecting the typeface and maybe upping the text size a bit. If you've ever seen a non-encoded ebay listing, you know what I mean.

I've been having a lot of success on ebay recently. Depending on what you're selling, see what day it sells the best. Sounds stupid but it works. They say Sunday evening is really prime and it does do very well. Ship anywhere. I ship TONS of stuff to Canada. Pictures are essential. Fill up all of your title space, I mean it too! Describe as well as you can and be ready to answer questions. Its really easy. If you want a certain price but don't want buy it now, set the price at the lowest you'ld sell it at or set a reserve. I may be a couple of cents extra but as the saying goes, spend money to make money. I usually spend about $2 or less per listing with all of the pretties, prices, and perks.

Thanks for the pointers!

Do you mean to list the new items on Sunday night or have the auctions end on Sunday night?
