The picture of the toddlers at play and this picture of the infant in arms are quite similar, and very practical to make for a child that is growing quite a lot. Considering how fast Henry has grown in the last two months, and how many clothes he's grown out of, I don't want to make anything too complicated, considering that these will probably be one event kind of clothes.

Gowns for babies are a very nice thing. The only thing I found that I had to make bigger was the head hole, but my Henry has a HUGE head. For the next version, I did a keyhole, and it'll grow a lot longer. He wore his maroon gown for most of the first year; when it was big on him I just rolled the sleeves up. His red gown should last even longer, there's additional fabric I can let out in the sleeves, unless, I just pass it to Edward first. It looks like these garments don't even have sleeves? Interesting.

Some of them do, and some of them don't. Of the two examples that I'm using, one has short sleeves and the other none. Considering how hard it is to get sleeves on Henry, this is a good thing. He doesn't mind short sleeves, but really fights long ones.

Imitating the clothes is one thing. But please don't imitate the baby walker. Remember that infant mortality was high then. (I've had to take care of too many baby walker problems, from hip problems to falls to developmental delays because of those awful things! Baby walkers bad, bad, bad.)

I think you're on the right track for the clothes. Kids from then grew just as fast as kids now. And they tended to value their clothing higher than we do. They'd want a outfit to be usable for a longer time than current practice, just like you'd like SCA outfits to last longer for him.

I made Maja's first tunics wide and pretty long. That way she could use them next year too. I have put in new sleeves in some, because the old were too short and narrow. This is especially useful for shifts, since you don't want too big sleeves on clotehs you wear under the tunic. I have also widened one wool tunic by adding trapezoid gores at the sides.
Of course, in the real middle ages children didn't wear their clothes just once a month, so they were probably worn out after a year, unless we're talking clotehs for special occasions. Also, clothes were probably also handed down, so the need for making them bigger was not as big as today. I do this because Maja is my last child, but I didn't do it with the twins' clothes and some of them Maja wear now.
