My copy of  Un banquier mis à nu : Autobiographie de Matthäus Schwarz, bourgeois d'Ausbourg by Philippe Braunstein  arrived today.

It is a fascmile of the BnF copy not of the original, but its in full golorious color and a real treat for the eyes!

The book is hardbound and comes in a protective cardboard sleeve.
The first part of the book is the color facsmile of the costume book  of Matthais Schwarz, then the second part is a text section with the original picture captions translated into French and a small amount of commentary.

The costumes themselve are very well drawn, and some of the details are quite easy to make out.

This is definitely worth adding to your research library, especially at $26

i had not realised there was new a french publication of it, as i've only seen the older german publication. very pleasant surprise, since my french is way better than my german (wich is more or less non-existent).

the french text, is it a copy of the older german book or is new?

If the older German book is the one by Fink, then no, this book cites it as a resource, but the text is written by Phillipe Braunstein.

Its funny, this isn't all that new of a publication, but I hadn't seen mention of it in any of the usual places and just ran across it by accident.

yup, it was the fink book i meant.

well, today i went into work and finally had time to photocopy the first 100 pages in that book. i'll wait and see if i want to copy the trachtenbuch entries until i've had a look in the french book and can compare how much they differ...

thanks again :)
