While looking for something else, I ran across this. Its a full color, quite detailed picture of an army encampment infront of a town. Usually when you find these they are woodcuts and in black and white.

I love how the tent supports are made out of branches, in one case a small tree has been bent over and that used. Straw is in the tents for mattresses and quite a few men's shirts are put over the top of the tents to dry.  And there's quite the mix of clothing styles, from slash and puff landsknecht, to tunics and hosen, to Spanish influenced styles. The women's clothes are all quite sensible, all of them have aprons, heads covered, and one of them  has her dress mostly undone.

I'm going to make sure that some of the local landsknechts that might not know you put you on as a friend - they'd love this! I'll check to see. Would you mind if I link to this post to get them to do so (provided I find that they haven't already hooked up?)

Oooooooo, extant jools. I'm looking forwad to that!

I think if I tried to dry my shirts by hanging them on our pavilion Mary would kill me. :)

Of course we have a nice tent, we are English nobles after all and not some base low-born German mercenaries. :)

"I love how the tent supports are made out of branches . . ."

About 6 months ago I put a post out looking for documentation on the use of 'rustic furniture' ~ furniture made with branches. Haven't found anything yet, but this painting gives some hope that something might show up. Thanks for sharing this . . .

This is an army on the move, so they are carrying the fewest things possible and making due with what they can find/steal/purchase when they camp.

There are a few pieces of furniture such as the tables and chairs in a couple of the tents, but they look like the stuff that is found in house pictures.

Why do you want to find rustic furniture?

I have an interest in what I call 'the forest peoples' of the middle ages, and am always interested in learning about how they lived thier lives .... I am guessing that twig furniture and such would not be unusual for them, however ~ documentation? There is very little.

'forest people'? Never heard of them. Do you mean peasants?
