This new article How Luther went viral is an interesting look at how the printing press enabled public debate during the time of the Reformation. Its a good read, not dry at al!
The Economist isn't in general. A lot of scholarly publications on the Reformation ARE dry however, so I've started noting which ones aren't, so people know which ones are easier to read and which ones they need to be wide awake and caffeinated for.
