Yay! Its done!
Dec. 11th, 2003 04:48 pmThe farthingale is done! Check it out here, hanging on my coat rack. http://home.att.net/~mmcnealy/Images/farthingale.JPG
I went to Northwest Cane Supply this morning and picked up a roll of round reed, #8 size, 5.75 mm in diameter. The shopkeeper was such a nice guy, they didn't take credit cards and I didn't have cash or check on me, so he just gave me the stuff and a sales slip and said "Send me a check in the mail" I was so surprised! If Seattle was a small town I could believe it, but its a huge city and I have never seen this guy before, I must have looked like the honest person I am. Their prices were really good too, at least $3 bucks cheaper a roll of cane than the weaving place in the U-district.
I let the cane soak in hot water in the bathtub while I sewed the channels. They are an inch deep. The cane was so easy to handle and just slipped right in. I am letting it dry before I sew up the last little bit of the channels.
I am looking forward to seeing how it looks with a skirt over it, its certainly stiff enough to hold heavy skirts out. I can walk in it just fine, I'll just have to walk like a lady, not like the tom-boy I can be sometimes.
Next, its finishing the smock I started months ago. Then its on to the new corset tomorrow.
