A whiney rant about Utopia
Dec. 16th, 2003 08:58 amIf anyone wants to come live in Seattle, Utopia if you're Green, they can come over and haul the yardwaste out to the curb. My arms hurt so much from lugging the decomposing paper bags of leaves out to get picked up today. Seattle requires you to have yardwaste as part of a seperate collection, so it can't go in the trash and you get fined if you do, so it either has to go in special cans marked 'YW" for yard waste or in paper bags. Then of course, just to make your life a living frustration, they only have pickup once a month in the winter time. WTH? So just when you have bags and bags of wet leaves that start decomposing the paper bags as soon as they are in there, you can't put them out for collection right away, they have to sit in the shed for a month. So today I rolled out of bed, threw on some grubby clothes and carried the delicate sacks out to the curb. All 10 of the suckers. Gah, my arms are killing me.
Last night Ysabelot, I and the Baroness went out for sushi and Korean, oh yummy! Definitly a do it again kinda meal. I also got a nice pair of earrings fromYsabelot for Christmas, they are so beautiful and I am wearing them today.
Today I have two goals, get two scarves painted for presents and get the eyelets done on the corset. Guess I had better get going then.

Date: 2003-12-16 02:53 pm (UTC)Yeah, I don't know about the mandatory thing. We already separate most of it, but there are times when it's preferable to just put together a big load of trash and pay extra.
Now, food-contaminated paper, etc. can't be recycled, and everything in the trash gets food on it, so how will they know if you are violating the rules? Maybe that newspaper had food on it already, or maybe it got food on it while in the trash. Either way it can't be recycled.
They won't even take pizza boxes, darn them!

Date: 2003-12-17 10:03 am (UTC)it does not help to be american in a foreign country where all the nationals (sometimes rightly) blame american for the state of world wide polution and the holes in the ozone layer.
what so many americans take for granted is paid for by the rest of us. please, it may be an incovience, but consider san fransico's brown outs, californa, florida and arizona's extensive fire problems. changing our attitude towards our waste has to start somewhere...
sorry if i seem to be on the high horse - but we don't get cut much slack out here.
