As I mentioned on Saturday, I was going to make a Schleier (veil) since I had found a picture of the style of dress I made and this headress.

Here's the pen sketch by Durer that I was talking about, you see the same style of headress in the Housebook Master's drawings too.  The style of dress I made is the same, including the open sleeve seam down the back.

I spent about 3 hours this afternoon playing around with pleated linen, pins and a mirror trying to recreate the look. I also drew heavily upon the painting of Durer's mother and another one I have in a book that's the same style to recreate the look.

The edges of the vach (that's the pleats around the head) need to be stitched down with a decorative stitch and the raw edges need to be finished, but "By George I think he's got it!"

I'll take pictures of the dress (flaws unfixed as yet) and schleier tomorrow, its too hot for the dress today!

It looks perfect!! I'm just wondering about the word schiller</> , is that 16th c german? According to my dictionary (30s) Schiller means shimmer. The word for veil is schleier. Were did you find it?
