The front

And the whole cloak

I am really quite pleased with how it turned out. It wasn't that hard of a thing to actually do, a little daunting to start considering that I am NOT an embroider historically.

The design is based off of a small motif from a  11th century wrought iron Viking ship prow that is now a weather vane. The outer fabric is wool twill in two different weights, the red is a heavier weight than the gold colored wool. All the designs are done in wool yarn couched with a wool weaving yarn. I did most of the embroidery, due to Ysabelot's hands giving out on her, but it was a joint effort to get the painting and prep work done and then to present it. ;) We make such a good team, I am so going to miss having her around to do things with.

He was stepping down from being the leader of our Barony, the group in the SCA that I played with up in Seattle. Ysabelot and I had heard him talking about various things relating to cloaks and designs and we schemed together and made this. It was a lot of fun. ;)
