Last night I sat down and put in the boning in my sister's effigy corset. I used weed wacker trimmer line, which is the most fabuleous stuff! I love it, its cheap and it provides wonderful support. I sewed the stay line at the top of the corset and then cut and threaded the line to size. I used a candle to melt the ends a little to take off the sharp edges and then dunked it in water to cool, it worked perfect.

I got the whole thing done and it was being really curly, wanting to curl up and not lay flat. So I decided that it needed to be steamed to straighten out. Instead of just pulling out my iron and steaming it (because I didn't think that it would work), I decided to steam it over the tea kettle. WTHWIT? (What the heck was I thinking? TM) Long story short, I was steaming the corset back and forth across the steam column from the kettle, I was also trying to keep the straps out of the gas flame, then the inside of my left wrist passed over the steam column, you can insert your favorite pain inflicted obsenities here, I think I said them all.
I now have two big lima bean size blisters on the inside of my wrist, they have been slathered in aloe vera and are wrapped in a scrap piece of linen. Oh the wonderful joys of sewing! :-P

I ended up just ironing the darn corset with lots of steam from the iron this time. It is now flat and straight, gosh darn it, I wish I had tried that the first time.

I laced it up and tried it on this morning, the corset fits wonderfully, I love the great support, and very smooth line that the trimmer line gives. Although my sister is about 3-4 inches taller than I am, we are the same size from the waist to the shoulders, and from the hips to the floor, the big difference in height comes in the space between the rib cage and the hip bones, I have none and she has 4 inches.

Now all I have left to do is put the binding on and it will be ready for her to try on so I can mark the holes for the straps.

I am so looking foward to the weekend, I so hope it goes better than this week. Between massive computer problems that have still not been fixed to the burning end to last night, I am ready for a day to go by without massive problems.

In Love....

With this dress. Good grief, I love her partlet and her sleeves. This is how I am going to make mine and my sister's partlet, possibly without the long ties though...

Came home to a cranky cat and another vm from WAMU. This time they want to schedule an interview, but its a different person who called from last time so it may be for a different job, I only applied for 3 with essentially the same title but very different responsibilites. We will see what we will see. The problem with the job that I got called about on Monday night is that it required 25% travel time, one week a month. I am such a homebody, I would just be exhusted to be gone that much, and it would totally kill me to be gone that much when Matt comes home.

I got part of the binding sewn on the corset at work, will get more done tonight before fencing class. Gotta love fencing!

Off to go eat dinner and get to sewing.

I love fencing! Not only can you work up a good sweat, but it is so much more mind engaging than aerobics. I missed last week due to the bad headache, so one of the teaching assistants was assigned to teach me 6th position parry, disengages and the stuff I missed from last week. Then after a bit we got to fence. I am no match yet for the good fencers, but I seem to be very good at defense, so the less experienced ones had a hard time getting touches on me. I knew those long arms and legs would come in handy some day, I can be a further distance from them, block and then lunge out and get 'em. I think I am going to spend my birthday money from the in-laws on getting a set of fencing gear, having a cooler jacket to fence in would be so very nice, right now the fleece gets a little warm.
I need to pack for my trip tomorrow and then its off to bed for me. On second thought, maybe I will skip the packing and head straight for bed.
