An Interview From [livejournal.com profile] linuxwitch

for the Lady Marion

1) What is your favorite season, and why?

I would have to say that Fall is my favorite time of year. The weather is warm and cold, there's this delightful crispness to the air. It just feels like a season of new beginnings to me, probably too many years spent going to school. ;) But I just love Fall and being able to wear my wool sweaters again.

2) What spiritual faith fascinates you the most (you don't necessarily have to practice/observe it)?

Catholicism. I am Protestant but grew up around Catholics and have had several good family friends who were Catholics. When I am on trips and looking to get grounded in my surroundings I search out the old churches and pray. The rituals and the artwork really inspire me. I think that when the Reformation happened the Protestant movement lost a lot of the mysteriousness that is part of Christianity, or maybe its the Northern European rational no nonsence way of thinking.

3) If you could have tea with anyone in history, who would it be?
Desiree Bernadotte, Queen of Sweden in the early 1800's. She was actually engaged to Napoleon before he left for Paris where he ditched her for Josephine. She ended up marrying Jean-Baptist Bernadotte, a marshal of France, who was asked by Sweden to be their heir-apperent. He ended up combining with Russia and Napoleon's enemies and brining him down. She was not this incrediable beauty, but was appearently an interesting woman. There's a historical novel about her life called Desiree, well worth the read.

4) If you had to pick ONE style/garment to make and could ONLY make that for the rest of your costuming days, what would it be?

Just one? ONE!! *wimper* *wimper* One?
Oh alright, late period German, which is what I already do.
I really find it fascenating, there are so many influences on the styles, (Spanish, Flemish, Italian) and yet the styles are disticntly their own, there's a definite German stamp to them. I also like the headresses! ;)
Plus, there is TONS of period documentation, woodcuts, paintings and Germans love to write things down, even ordinary things like the contents of poor trademen's closets when they died. It sure makes it easier to know what they were wearing on a day to day basis when they mention everything even the worn out stuff.

5) What other A&S Skill would you like to learn and why?

There are so many skills that I want to learn, but probably Period Silver and Gold smithing ranks up at the top.
I took a class in how to do it using modern tools, and I would like to learn how to do it using period techniques, I like the look of the old stuff better than the newer stuff anyway.

This week has not been too terribly exciting. I was sick in bed on Monday and Tuesday, from a wheat flour coating on some French fries I ate on Saturday is what I suspect. I want to exchange my current body for a new one, this just plain sucks.

While I was home on Monday, I turned on the TV and caught the Canadian reality show, Pioneer Quest, where they had two couples do the complete pioneer experience in Manitoba for a year. Highly entertaining and made me glad to be home sick and turning on the TV. If you get a chance to watch it, do!

Wednesday I went back to work and tried to make further headway with the IT group and the super simple project that I want them to do for me. I have honestly spent more time writing emails justifing this stupid thing than it will take them to do it. Idiots. It looks like they are actually going to do it now, but WHY can't we all just get along like one big happy family and c-o-o-p-e-r-a-t-e?

I also worked on this quarterly data request from Reg. reporting, sometimes I wonder at the intelligence of the people they hire. You explain what the numbers mean and it just goes in one ear and out the other. Making matters worse, they put out the request for it a month and a half ago, to a guy whose no longer here, and then didn't follow up on the progress until 4 days before it was due. So I got this unknown thing dropped in my lap last Friday with a due date of Thursday on it. Yah, it was just a load of fun, fortunatly its done and I met some really cool people working on this thing too.

Michelle, who is going on vacation next week and whose job I am covering while she's gone, dropped a bombshell and informed me that the afternoon reporting process, which is nastily complicated and in EXCEL to boot (it really, really desperatly needs to be in a database, but we can't do that due to the morons in IT, GRRRRR) is just about to get even MORE freaking complicated, but she doesn't know when and she really can't finish setting it up until we actually get into doing the new process, and that could be anytime from oh... tomorrow til next month. Oh yah, and she's not leaving a number that she can be contacted at either.....

Wednesday night, Wendy came over and we got her toile fitted. It was so nice to get something positive and non-work related done for the day.

Tonight I tried on my bridesmaids dress for Lisa's wedding on Saturday, it fits like a dream and is a little loose in the waist, plus when I am wearing my heels, the dress is the right height and no extra hemming is needed. I am so happy about the fit. YAY me!

I didn't go to fencing tonight, I was thinking about it, but I had to make a run for the bus to catch it, and that left me winded and exhausted for about the next 40 mins. Not a great sign that I am over being sick, so I stayed home and took a nap.

I really need to be in good form for the rehersal and rehersal dinner tomorrow night, and then the wedding on Saturday. The groom's Mom has gone all out and its at the Boeing Museum of Flight for goodness sakes, not just a restraunt, but a catered dinner at a museum, and we will be the only ones there since its after hours. This is going to be a nice wedding, both sides are comfortably well off. I am getting my hair done "all fancy like" on Saturday since its the least I can do as a bridesmaid.

On another fencing note, I finally found the number for AmFence and my mask is being sent out shortly. I am never ordering from them again. Crappiest customer service ever, I had to call to find out where the missing part of my order was, no note on the invoice or anything, then I had to call to find out about when it was coming, after I waited a month with no notice. Would an email have killed them?
