I suppose I should just be grateful that there is brocade fabric out there like that seen in so many of the Lucas Cranach the Elder's paintings

And not be bitching that its $71 a meter with a 10 meter minimum order


Talk about a period-style barrier to copying the fashions of the upper-crust. *big grin*

Of course there's lots of other 'almost good enough' brocades on there for much less, just not the one I want!

£36.20 per metre under 30 metres. £26.50 per metre over 30 metres - no VAT as you don't live in England! I don't think that is any better is it? I've used these brocades, Fairford is the green Elizabethan dress on my site - and they are very good fabrics.

Interestingly, that's one of the cheaper firms for church style fabric. One church place I know charges over £150.00 per metre - yep - one hundred and fifty pounds sterling!!

That doesn't even make me blink, I do a lot of italian stuff, and fabrics from a good house there can be 1,700-2,500 euro a metre. I usually won't pay more then $35-70 a yard for silk damask, but it has to be pretty special at $70 and I will only use 1-3 yards of it for guarding.

Silk damask in the ordinary good fabric shops here is about £70.00 per metre - whatever things cost in the U.S. is usually the same in pounds! But buying ifrom th eU.S. involves customs sharges and postage and ......and............ so much hassle for customers! For me, I get stuff sent to a friend, who then sends me a gift!

G-street in DC, Ebay, and a couple of other online places. I have a couple of killer pieces that I got on clearance at G-street, a black and gold silk damask that was $80 a yard on clearance for 19.99, with an extra 25% off, and another that was $75 and they put in on the wrong table and I asked about it, and was told the wrong price, and when I had already had it cut and went to pay, they tried to charge me $300 (and that was with my 30% off coupon,) so my hubby told them what we were told was the price, had a fight with the manager, and they had to honor it.......wait for it........$8.00 a yard!

Nope, its not any better of a price, but oh well! Not making the dress I'd need this for right now anyway.
